Setup Go Development Environment on Ubuntu 14.04

A very brief guide to setup a Go development environment on Ubuntu 14.04, mostly for myself:

  1. Download the latest archive: wget https://storage.googleapis.com/golang/go1.4.2.linux-amd64.tar.gz It can be found on the Go install documentation.
  2. Extract it to /usr/local sudo tar -C /usr/local -xzf go1.4.2.linux-amd64.tar.gz
  3. Create workspace mkdir -p ~/golang/bin ~/golang/pkg ~/golang/src/github.com
  4. Set $PATH and $GOPATH echo "export GOPATH=$HOME/golang" >> ~/.bashrc echo "export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/go/bin:$HOME/golang/bin" >> ~/.bashrc

That’s it.
